Litter Power Fringe Mathematics For Everyday Use
Peter Castine is the author of Litter Power for Max/MSP. Litter is the largest available collection of noise generators and random number distributions prepared for media signal processing. Litter provides over 70 objects thoroughly covering:
- Discrete Distributions: Bernoulli, Dice, Finite Urn, I Ching, Uniform, Poisson
- Continuous Distributions: ArcSine/Beta, Chi Square, Cauchy, Exponential, Fisher, Gamma/Erlang, Grey, Hyperbolic Cosine, Linear, Logistic, Log-Normal, Normalized Gauss, Brownian, White/Pink/Brown/Black Noise, Weibull/Rayleigh
- Signal Generators: Low Frequency, Grey, Linear Congruence, Brown, Black, Dust/Popcorn, White, Pink
- Mutation Processors: Floating point interval mutation, Frequency-Domain interval mutation, Integer interval mutation, Time-Domain interval mutation
- Utility Functions: Phase unwrapping, Full text of I Ching fortunes, Map I Ching's results to different items, Scale map & limit floats integers & signals, High-powered signal degradation
The generators offer many well-known distributions: binomial, linear, exponential, Poisson, and Gauss, to name a few, plus fractal noise generators. The core random number generator in Litter Power produces 32-bit numbers with all bits random (not the case with other Max/MSP random number and noise generators) and cycles of 288 (over 300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) and higher. All random number generators auto-seed themselves reliably, guaranteeing complete non-determinacy.
Litter Power does the math for you, leaving you to be creative.
Litter Power runs with Max/MSP under Windows XP, Mac OS X, and Classic Mac OS.
